How we make our guides
Maison Velvetia publishes guidance on sexual health — a subject where bad information carries real consequences. This page states plainly how our guides are made, who makes them, what we rely on, and how to tell us when we get something wrong.
1. What Maison Velvetia is
Maison Velvetia is a free intimate wellness knowledge base. We publish evidence-based, judgement-free guides in English and Simplified Chinese for readers in Malaysia and across the Chinese-speaking world.
We do not sell products. There is no shop, no cart and no checkout on this site.
2. Who writes our guides
Every guide is signed Mae Chen — the editorial pen name under which our in-house content team in Kuala Lumpur publishes. Mae Chen is not a single individual; the name is a masthead, used the way editorial desks have long used consistent bylines.
We are explicit about this because intimate wellness is stigmatised in Malaysia, and a shared byline lets our team do this work without personal exposure. It does not lessen accountability: editorial responsibility sits with Maison Velvetia, and the address below reaches a real person.

3. How we source
Our standard is at least two independent, authoritative sources per guide, and we prioritise primary and institutional ones:
- PubMed and peer-reviewed literature, WHO, FDA, ECHA, and ISO material standards
- Malaysian regulatory and public-health guidance where it applies
- Product-safety claims — materials, porosity, cleaning — traced to material standards or manufacturer specifications, never to marketing copy
Where evidence is thin or contested, we say so in the guide rather than round it off.
Where we stand: as of 20 August 2026, all 112 published guides meet the two-source standard. Nineteen older guides were brought up to it on that date. Every source is checked to be live before it is cited.
4. How we review
- Every guide is researched, written, edited and fact-checked before publication.
- Guides carry a visible publication or update date. If the date is old, the guidance is old — we would rather you know that.
- We re-check our highest-traffic topics on a rolling basis and update in place rather than republishing as new.
What we do not claim: our guides are not reviewed by a licensed clinician. We are an education publisher, not a clinical service. Where a question is clinical, we say so and point you toward care.
5. Corrections
If you find an error, tell us and we will fix it.
- Email [email protected], or use our contact form.
- Substantive corrections are made in the guide and carry an updated date.
- We correct errors regardless of who reported them, or how small.
6. Commercial relationships and independence
- Maison Velvetia sells nothing and runs no advertising.
- Some guides link to Secret After Dark, a Malaysian retailer, so readers can act on what they have read. Maison Velvetia has a commercial relationship with Secret After Dark, and all such links are marked
rel="sponsored nofollow". - We do not accept paid placements, sponsored guides, or payment for coverage. No brand has ever paid to appear in, or be excluded from, a Maison Velvetia guide.
- Product guidance is written from material standards and safety criteria. Where a safer option exists that we do not link to, we name it anyway.
7. Medical disclaimer
Maison Velvetia provides general education, not medical advice. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or a substitute for care from a qualified professional.
If you have pain, bleeding, sores, unusual discharge, a suspected infection, or any symptom that worries you, please see a doctor or visit a government clinic.
