What this guide actually contains
We wrote the version we wished someone had handed us in our twenties — when “intimate wellness” advice in Malaysia was either Western blogs that ignored our climate and cultural context, or shop listings that copy-pasted “100% medical-grade silicone” onto products that smelled like a shower curtain.
It’s not a sales pitch. It’s not a buying guide for any specific product line. It’s the orientation document we give every new Maison Velvetia reader so they can navigate this category without making the expensive, uncomfortable mistakes we made first.
What’s inside the 10 pages
- The four-category material framework — what “medical-grade silicone” actually means (and why most listings get it wrong)
- The smell test — your nose detects phthalate off-gassing better than most home labs
- Discreet shopping in Malaysia — what’s legal, what arrives in plain packaging, what to ask before paying
- The first-product framework — three honest questions that filter out 80% of the wrong-fit products
- Cleaning + storage that actually preserves the silicone — most people skip this and shorten the lifespan by 60%
- Partner conversations that don’t make it weird — three opening lines from real Malaysian readers
- What “judgment-free” looks like in practice — for solo, couples, LGBTQ+ readers, and anyone in between
- When to talk to a healthcare provider — and how (with the language to use)
Why we made this free
Maison Velvetia is being built as Malaysia’s first education-first intimate wellness boutique. We’re a small team in Kuala Lumpur, our shop opens later this year, and our north star is simple — nobody should pay RM 200+ for their first product just to find out it was the wrong category for them.
This guide is how we earn the right to be in your inbox. If it helps you, you might think of us when our shop opens. If it doesn’t, you can unsubscribe in one click and we’ll never email you again. That’s the whole transaction.

Quick questions
Is this really free? What’s the catch?
No catch. The PDF is free. After you subscribe you’ll get Mae Chen’s monthly intimate wellness essay (also free) and early access when our shop opens. You can unsubscribe with one click any time. We don’t sell your email or share it with anyone.
Who is this guide for?
Anyone in Malaysia (or Southeast Asia broadly) who’s curious about intimate wellness but hasn’t found a trustworthy starting point. Beginners, couples reading together, people who’ve bought one or two products and got burned, and frankly anyone who’s tired of the “as seen on TikTok” marketing language.
How long is it?
10 pages. Roughly a 15-minute read. Designed to be the orientation document — not a textbook. If you want deeper reading after, the Maison Velvetia journal has 23 long-form articles and Mae Chen’s Substack has the longer essays.
Will you email me daily?
No. After the welcome sequence (3 emails over two weeks, all editorial — no product push), you’ll get one email per month. Mae Chen’s monthly essay. That’s the entire cadence unless we ever have something genuinely time-sensitive (like a sample drop), and even then we’d send maybe four extras a year.
Is intimate wellness even legal in Malaysia?
For personal use, yes. There’s a long-standing grey-area framework around private adult use that the guide explains in detail. The shop side has packaging and discretion practices that respect Malaysian sensibilities. We cover all of it in the PDF without lecturing.
